As regards our operations, the goal is to halve the carbon footprint in 2025 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2030 at the latest.

Because of this, in the design phase, the product can be modified quite significantly from the viewpoint of manufacturing. For example, we can suggest different material options for the product. With the help of the modern deep-drawing technology available at our Äänekoski plant, we can, for example, make products with less manufacturing steps, with less components and out of lighter materials using stiffening shapes. This also reduces the need for welding. Through design, we can also contribute to packaging of nested products and thus transporting even less air.

A good example is one of our customers whose annual steel consumption decreased by 150,000kg due to the utilisation of modern deep drawing technology. For another customer, relying on design, we managed to reduce the volume of welding works significantly by using only two deep-drawn parts to assemble the cab floor of a work machine that used to consist of 26 components.
